Essential Question: How can our knowledge of historical labor movements inform us on how to solve current and future labor issues?
The workforce is something the majority of us will enter in our lives at some point, and with the rise of machines taking over jobs, shopping shifting to more of an online based activity, and nationally owned companies making small business look like nothing, questions about what our workforce will look like in the future are important ones to ask. So, diving into the industrialization of America and what effects that had on workers as well as law and economics at the time, we learned about unions being built and protests to create safer, more sustainable jobs for everyone in the working class. After using these historical thinking skills to analyze primary texts. We applied this knowledge to what is happening today and gave presentations to the class. Finally, choosing a topic that interested us, we interviewed community members and experts in order to gain perspective on some of the future labor crisis's we may see. |
